Interview by Demise of the King!!!

Band: Demise of the King

Genre: Death Metal/Deathcore

Hometown: Louisville, KY

Here are the members of the band:

Bob Lowrey - Vocals

Devin Stillwell - Guitar

Ben Cotton - Drums

Aaron Simon- Bass

Dacoda Torrance - Guitar

Below are their group responses:

1. What inspired you guys to play music?
Meshuggah is tight and we wanted to do that. So we got a line up together. Then through many changes in the line up, we gained a new vocalist and bassist on Craigslist. We got the ball rolling, and here we are now.

2. How has music changed your life?

We are known a lot more in the music scene and people now know us in more places. We have made many new friends and gained a new level of love, respect for each other and when people take the time to come to a show to see us; we then try and say hi.

3. What bands do you guys listen to and how has it shaped your music?

The Red Chord, Thy Art is Murder, Rose Funeral, Carnifex, Through the Eyes of the Dead, Black Dahlia Murder.

4. What advice do you guys have for others that want to pursue music as their career?

Don't set out to do music as a career. Be you!! Don't expect it to just take off. It won't be great at first.

5. Where did you guys get the idea for the name of your band?

The original band line up hated Jesus and wanted to refer to the crucifixion. We only have one Catholic band member, which is our bassist.

6. What do you guys want your fans to know about you that they might now know already?

If it wasnt for Bill, it would not have happened. We appreciate the fans, love taking pictures, signing things, and having conversation with each one of them :).

7. What are you guys thinking when you are on stage?

            Bob: I am thirsty!!

            Devin: Is my amp broke?

Aaron: Breakdowns. Butt bounce (haha). Smile at fans.

Ben: How does my face look?

8. What does your family think of your music?

            Bob: They hate it.

Devin: They don't like it, but they come to the shows. So they are still supportive.

            Aaron: "It is too loud"

Ben: My dad digs it. :)

9. What is your favorite food on tour that you guys eat?

We have not been on tour just yet, but I am sure we will feast on the cheapest food we can find and stock up on ramen.

10. What song that your guys wrote together is your favorite?

We spend an equal amount of time and dedication into writing our music and we hope it shows. Our favorite songs are definitely Tonights the Night, Deification, and our newest song that will be a surprise when we hit the studio. ;)

Interview with Donner Social!!!

Band: Donner Social

Genre: Electronica/Synthpop/Acoustotronic/Experimental

Hometown: Astoria, Queens NY

Here are the members of the band:

Josh Ellis

Elanna White

Below are their group responses to my questions:

1. What inspired you guys to play music?

It was kind of an obvious thing for us after we met each other. We both have always been writers and growing up we would have our notebooks in our bags with us at all times (and still do!). Once we met, it was actually funny that it took a little while to begin writing music together because the pieces ended up fitting so perfectly. With both of our loves for writing, our respective talents and our knowledge of music, it was plain that we would be a perfect match. Since then, we have sort of been an unstoppable team and are near done finishing our first full-length album which will be available to purchase on our website soon.

2. How has music changed your life?

For the both of us, music serves as an appendage of our emotions.  It's a manifestation of our gut reactions, just raw emotion. This was a crucial part of our development as people. Music has really shaped who we are and how we view life now. Also, one of the things that we think is so cool is that our music has inspired other artists to create their own works of art. Currently, there is a short film that is in pre-production that the screenwriter wrote while listening to our stuff. When your art helps to create more art, there is nothing greater.

 3. What bands do you guys listen to and how have they shaped your music?

We both have a pretty broad spectrum of music we listen to. Our combined favorites include bands and artists such as: Death Cab For Cutie, David Bowie, Ben Folds Five,  Björk , Bright Eyes, The Blood Brothers, Duncan Sheik, The Good Life, Imogen Heap, M83, Patrick Wolf, Sufjan Stevens, Talking Heads, We Are Scientists, The Velvet Underground, Yeah Yeah Yeahs and The Killers.

Bands like this have taught us never to settle for the ordinary and to always strive to achieve our own original sound.

4. What advice do you guys have for others that want to pursue in music as their career?

Always follow what you feel is right and never let other people's limitations impede you or what you want to do.

5. Where did you guys get the idea for the name of your band?

Cannibalism on The Oregon Trail during Manifest Destiny.

6. What do you guys want your fans to know about you that they might not know already?

Well, Josh has an indie record label that he runs out of his home studio and Elanna is a working actress. Musical theater was actually originally her game (and still is if you can believe it!). She is also a certified chili light aficionado and really sucks at cooking. We both like cats…combined we have more cats than Josh has people in his immediate family. We also could live off of Pocky and/or green tea mochi ice cream…so you should totally buy us some in the near future.

7. What are you thinking when you guys are on stage?

Josh: When I am on stage I am really just trying to give an exciting performance and give the audience the opportunity to feel as enveloped in the music as I do when I am playing it. I think that an on-stage performance should not just be a band playing some songs for an audience, but rather a group experience that can be taken home with you when you leave.

Elanna: I don't think I would really be able to tell you honestly. When I am on stage, everything happens so fast, it is just a giant blur really. I suppose that I am focused on the music, emoting how during that particular song in that very moment. It is more of an expression than a solid thought.

We have all been surrounded by music our entire life, it was just an unsaid calling.

Collectively bands like: Blink-182, Green Day and New Found Glory have all influenced us.
4. What advice do you guys have for others that want to pursue in music as their career?

Interview with All Became New!!!

Band: All Became New
Genre: Christian/Hardcore
Hometown: Madison, Indiana

Here are the members of the band:

Danny Adams (Vocals)

Sam Ernst (Guitar)

Matt Boyle (Drums)

Gregg Martin (Guitar/Vocals)

Ezekiel Vasquez (Bass)

 Below are their group responses:
1.      What inspired you guys to play music?

All Became New as a whole is inspired by God to play music and share the gospel.

 2.      How has music changed your life?

Being able to play music as a part of our ministry is a true blessing from God and has shown us our calling. We believe it is a great tool to reach out and be exposed to people that consider music a big part of their lives.

3.      What bands do you guys listen to and how have they shaped your music?

Danny: Refused, Comeback Kid, and The Chariot. The reason I wanted to play music was Minor Threat.

Matt: Blink 182, Stray From The Path, and Ceremony. I really wanted to create something I was proud of and I appreciated the bands who wrote innovative music.

Gregg: The Ghost Inside, Poison The Well, and Ascend The Hill. I would say the versatility of different influences has helped me broaden my style of music.

Zeke: The Ramones, Deftones, and Rancid. Punx not dead.

Sam: Hatebreed, Smiley Kids, and Bury Your Dead are the three bands that showed me that music is energy and it keeps up with my ADD. I also enjoy Snoop Dogg J.

4.      What advice do you guys have for others that want to pursue in music as their career?

If you plan on being in a hardcore band, don't consider it your career to support a family by any means. Welcome to scrub life. Prepare to be broke and have a crummy job. If you find something you're good at - keep it in mind for your livelihood after you have finished playing music. Hardcore is all about having something positive to stand for. Legitimately do it for the ministry and be prepared to live outside your comfort zone. We don’t mind doing the hardship because it is all for the glory of God.

5.      Where did you guys get the idea for the name of your band?

2nd Corinthians 5:17

6.      What do you guys want your fans to know about you that they might not know already?

We all love Milli Vanilli, Michael Jackson, and chili dogs.

7.      What are you guys thinking when you are on stage?

As a whole we are very in the heat of the moment while feeling and channeling the energy typical of a hardcore show into our ministry. There is a lot of emotion in our live show.

Sam: I try and keep a worshipful mindset, while keeping the kids pumped up. I also like to focus on the fiery eagle flying about the room.

Danny: Focused on the Taco Bell coming up after the show and speaking on behalf of my entire band's ministry.

Matt: The energy of our songs, the crowd, and bringing the spirit into our music.

Gregg: I try to stay focused on the spirit and our energy, while trying to keep a mind set on worship.

Zeke: What Gregg said, and I imagine that I am Deedee Ramone in the 80's. Pray no one asks for us to play 'Freebird' J.

8.      What does your family think of your music?

Danny: Even though I chose this over a free ride in college, my family knows I love this and that I am doing it for God, so they support it on those grounds.

Gregg: My family is very supportive of what I do, especially spiritually. They have always encouraged me throughout my life with music and have always pushed me to grow musically.

Zeke: They are such a blessing and they financially help out when they can, so I can keep doing the ministry I am called to.

Matt: I have their full support, they legitimately enjoy the music we play, and are proud of what I am doing and what it stands for.

Sam: Despite my brother's fiancee being mosh-attacked and my dad getting flipped off at a show, they positively support it and my dad says "The hair stands up on the back of my neck" ,when he listens to our music. That's pretty cool J

9.      What is your favorite food that you guys eat when you are on tour?

Taco Bell, Skyline Chili, Qdoba, Burger King, any chinese buffet, tahitian treat, spam, vienna sausages, cheez-its, pizza, lunchables, fruit snacks, sour patch kids, arnold palmer, tru-moo chocolate milk, Subway, beef jerkey, trail mix, sunflower seeds, chips, campbell's soup-to-go, combo's (pizzeria style), corn nuts, and a delicious bass J

10. Which song is your favorite that you guys created together as a band?

That is a tough question, seeing as we really love our new album as a whole. Certain aspects in our songs make every song worth being our personal favorite.

Interview with BigShot Reub and The Reloaders!!!

Name: BigShot Reub and The Reloaders
Genre: Blues/Rock/Jazz
Hometown: San Diego, CA

Here are the members of the band:

Reuben Vigil - Vocals/ Guitar/Composer

Jodie Hill- Bass

Ric Lee- Drums

Below are their individual responses to the questions, enjoy :):

1.  What inspired you guys to play music?

REUBEN:
My family is first generation to the U.S.A. from Mexico. They struggled their whole life discovering America. A big part of this discovery process included listening and appreciating a wide range of music. Everything from County to Western and Jazz!!

JODIE:

I was inspired to music by my father. He was a huge Jazz fan and belonged to several record clubs receiving the latest in Jazz. He always had a great Stereo, so all the instruments sounded great. From that, I had a drive to learn the bass. It has dominated my life ever since.

RIC:

Family tradition

2.  How has music changed your life?

REUBEN:
Playing the guitar has helped to keep me balanced during some pretty difficult times.
JODIE:

I have had incredible experiences in my life, getting to see most parts of the country and meeting some fascinating people.

RIC:

While playing a gig in Lake Charles, LA, his band opened for Queen Ida at a local club. I am also inspired by: BB King, lazy Lester (son of Robert Johnson) Fabulous T-Birds, John Bonham, Chick Web, Sam lay (Muddy Waters drummer). Mesmerized and connected with the Zydeco and Cajun beats, which became a hallmark of my style.

 3.  What bands do you guys listen to and how have they shaped your music?

REUBEN:
So far: BB King, Beach Boys, Jimi Hendrix, Jeff Beck Carol King, Todd Rundgren, The Allman Brothers, Earth, Wind and Fire, Chaka Khan and Rufus, Ohio Players, Chic Corea, Herbie Hancock, Steely Dan, Elvis Costello, Jackson Brown, and Joni Mithchell.

*Lately I have been checking out a band called The Cherry Bluestorms. They will be here in San Diego at The Eleven on February 18, 2012.

JODIE:

My background is influenced by Jazz and some of my greatest influences have been great bass players like: Ray Brown, Rufus Reid, Ron Carter, Jimmy Garrison, Gary Carr, Jaco Pastorius, Stanley Clark and the list can go on and on.

RIC:

Boozoo Chavis, Keith Frank, Queen Ida, Brian Jack, Beausoleil and Lisa Haley are some of my favorites.

4.  What advice do you guys have for others that want to pursue in a music based career?

REUBEN:
Realize early on that you are not going to have any peace in this life, without pursuing the music you love.
JODIE:

My biggest advice for any Musician is learning to read music. Listen to everybody and every style. Learn all your scales because they are the back bone of any song you will perform.

RIC:

Stick with the basics. A band is like an automobile engine, it moves as one and less is more (in terms of members of the band). Always be learning new music and styles, be a lifelong student of music and a team player. Show up early.

 5.  Where did you guys get the idea for the name of your band?

REUBEN:
Big Shot Reub was a name I was given by David Mickey, while I was working at a local Bill Collections Agency.

6.  What do you guys want your fans to know about you that they might not know already?

REUBEN:
The album "ROUNDHOUSE BLUES" is the first of many. Everyone from reviewers, producers, promoters and fans are pushing for the next album. Get Ready!!!!

JODIE:

I am a HUGE baseball fan! When riding to gigs with Reuben, I always make him put on the games in the car.

RIC:

I started playing drums at the age 10 years old and made my own drumsticks out of scrap wood and began learning how to play drums. I began playing in the school band and started playing professionally at the age of 16 for local events.

7.  What are you thinking when you guys are on stage?

REUBEN:
Every event/venue has its own vibe (spirit). I try to plug in to that energy and deliver a great performance the audience won’t forget.

JODIE:

Depends on the tune, but as a rule I am listening to how I can make the song as musical as possible. Do I keep everything really straight in terms of my bass part or do I stretch out a little. Always keeping in mind the style of the tune.

RIC:

I am thinking “what does the audience want to hear” and “people hear with their eyes” so show them how much fun you are having playing for them! Give your audience 1000 percent always.

8.  What does your family think of your music?

REUBEN:
My family has always been supportive and know that it took me about 50 years to realize that music is an important part of my life.

JODIE:

In general they were pretty supportive, although they left it up to me to succeed and keep in mind what my responsibility’s where.

RIC:
My family is very proud, I am a direct descendant of Confederate General Robert E. Lee and come from a very southern musical family steeped in the tradition of Blues, Americana and Cajun/Zydeco music.

Feeling the blues and want to cry out your sorrows, well this band feels your pain: BigShot Reub and The Reloaders. You might ask your self what real determination for a band is and after checking out this interview you will know what it is :)

Interview with Rico of COLOURS and FOREVER THE SICKEST KIDS!!!

Colours is a band that consists of two people: Rico (Lead Guitarist) for Forever The Sickest Kids and Phillip. Colours consists of two people determined to make an impact on the world through their music because being a 2 person band the odds are against them. Phillip could not take no as an answer and so with his creative mind takes Colours in a direction where success is ultimately the outcome. Colours is an Indie/Rock/Pop band and Phillip transitions to that from being in a Pop/Rock band.
I had the great privilege and opportunity to interview Rico via email, which is an opportunity I will never forget. I want to thank him very much for that opportunity and enjoy the interview because these responses will blow your mind :)
Here is the links to Colours:
Their Merch Store:  http://colours.bigcartel.com/

Here are the responses to the questions you all have been dieing for:
1. What inspired you guys to play music?
I started to really get into music in middle school. Nirvana was the first band I got into. Their energy and ability to write simple, but powerful songs gave me the crazy idea that maybe I could do it too. When I was 13, I wanted a guitar so over the summer break I worked for my dad to save up enough money to buy my first. I think my parents saw it more as a phase at first, so making me work for it was a way of showing them that I was serious. While my friends were sleeping in and enjoying their school break,  I was waking up at 5am to work with my dad for minimum wage.
2. What strategies did you guys take to make your band known?
I started off touring working for other bands. Before making Colours official, I was working with Forever The Sickest Kids as a stage manager and guitar/drum tech. I was already surrounded by several bands that were doing what I wanted to do, so it was a great learning experience to see the day to day or how bands work. On the side, we worked hard with our social networks (Myspace, Facebook, Purevolume, Twitter, Stickam) to push our music and make people aware of the band.  Substream Magazine gave us a full feature before the release and covered us as a "Band you need to know" on a very successful issue with Owl City. I was basically living on my lap top 24/7 talking to fans and finding better ways to promote and spread our name. It was shortly after that in 2010 I was offered a job by The Almost (Aaron Gillespie, Underoath) to be their Tour manager for a headlining tour and for their support tour with Switchfoot. Being that I was already committed to Forever The Sickest Kids, I had to kindly decline. At that time, The Colours EP "Alive & Well" was fairly new and The Almost had heard it. They came back with a counter offer of taking Colours on tour with them, if I would agree to take the job tour managing them. My shock response was "I'd love to, but we don't have a full band, it is just Phil and I." They immediately responded with "We will learn your songs and play in your band."
Members of the great rock band "The Almost" offering to take Colours out on tour, plus learning our songs and performing with us for free? Of course we had to do it!
3. Where did you guys get the name of your band from?
Like any band, it was a long struggle of finding something we both liked so it ended up changing several times. We had begun recording "Alive & Well" under another band name, but towards the end of the record we found out the name was taken. One day Phil and I were writing at my house and out of the blue I suggested "Hey, what COLOURS? But with a U?" And that was pretty much it!
4. What bands do you guys listen to and how have they shaped your music?
This is always the hardest question for me because there are just far too many to name. I am a big fan of music and anything that puts a smile on our face. Melody and writing something that actually means something to you. We have taken things that we have learned and loved from several bands that have influenced us throughout the years. Being open minded to all types of music, whether it is old or new helps in not being afraid to try something new and allows you to grow as a writer.
5. What does your family think of your music?
My parents have always been supportive of everything I have done. Out of all the bands I have been part of, I really feel that COLOURS is the one that really took them by surprise. It was completely different than anything I have ever been part of and the process was very hands on for me. We are a band of only 2 members, so we wrote everything together and played all the instruments. Phil and I would work on ideas we both had on guitar and if we felt it was going somewhere good, I would hop behind the drums set and we would begin writing other instrument parts, there the songs would take shape. Recording our EP "Alive &Well" was the first time we ever heard our songs we wrote in their full form. It was something very amazing to be part of and to prove to ourselves that we could be a band no matter if we were just two. All that mattered was that we shared the same ideas.
6. What is your favorite food to eat when you are on tour?
I am not a picky eater. It is so easy to eat unhealthy all the time on the road, so home cooked meals are missed. I try my best to avoid eating like an 11 year old and try to make as many healthy decisions as possible.
7. What do you think about when you are on stage?
I am just happy to be doing something I love. I think about how grateful I am that I am able to play my music and that it has been able to reach people further than I knew possible. I love playing music and being able to travel and meet people. I have been blessed to tour whether it is with COLOURS or playing guitar in Forever The Sickest Kids. I would of never guest in my wildest dreams that I would of have been able to see/tour the world playing music with my friends.

Interview with Bruno Benetton Free Band!!!

Here are the members of the band:
Tomáš Palonder - lead vocal
Krížko - piano, back vocal
Mustafa - guitar, back vocal
Juraj Varga - bass, back vocal
Marek Hradský - the magic guitar
Michal Danielis - keyboards, pc
Michal Uličný - drums

Name: Bruno Benetton Free Band
Genre: Rock, Pop, and Electro

Below are their group responses:
1. What inspired you guys to play music?
Tomas: Music has always been my escape from reality. Being an 11 year old boy, I didn´t know what I wanted from life or who I was, when suddenly I saw a video of Guns N´Roses on MTV. From that moment on, I realized this is what defines me and what I would love to do too.
Mustafa: Everybody on the earth has an individual relationship with music and so do I. When I was 16, my best friend inspired me to buy a bass guitar and till that day the best way to express my emotion is through that musical instrument. My inspirations come from mood, music, and the life experiences I go through on a daily basis.
Krizo: My girlfriend, my life. A deep inspiration for me is also my most favorite musician, Freddie Mercury.

2. How has music changed your life?
Tomas: Music is the most intimate language for me. Music is in my mind 24 hours a day. It is almost like an illness because there is always some music switched on in my mind subconsciously. I don´t feel the need to consume drugs or alcohol when I am playing music because I can heal my soul with this precious medicine. It may sound funny, but I think music is like an herb.
Mustafa: My life has changed totally because all day I am at the practice room with my band or playing gigs. I am living the life of a musician.
Krizo: Music shapes every aspect of my life, so is difficult to say what it changed.

3. What bands do you guys listen to and how have they shaped your music?
Tomas: Alice In Chains, Jane´s Addiction, Suicidal Tendencies, Led Zeppelin, INXS, The Who, Rage Against The Machine, KORN, James Brown, Jimmy Hendrix, Black Sabbath, Nine Inch Nails, KYUSS, Monster Magnet, Public Image Ltd, Faith No More, Soundgarden, Audioslave, DOWN, Pantera, Cypress Hill, Tricky, Faithless, Massive Attack, Prodigy, Skinny Puppy, Young Gods and many more.
Everyone in the band comes from different music background, so we often argue during the songwriting process. At the end we always find the best compromise that sounds like nothing I have heard before.
Mustafa: Selah sue, Florence and The Machine, Leon Jean Marie, Kings of Leon, foo fighters, and many others. I think subconsciously I put all that stuff in to my musical ideas.
Krizo: I like any kind of music because I literally listen to everything starting with opera ending with folk music, but my most favorite is rock.

4. What advice do you guys have for others that want to pursue in music as their career?
Tomas: Listen to yourself and analyze it soberly. Ask people what they think about your songs and try to find the best compromise between your craziness and people’s ability to dig it.
Mustafa: Work hard and every time you need to be ready to kill your babies (songs) the strongest ideas will survive, focus on the detail, and don’t lost your attention on that. You also need to make compromises because the school of music is everywhere around you, you need to sacrifice everything for your love: Music.
Krizo: It is very important to know the right people in music business.

 5. Where did you guys get the idea for the name of your band?
Tomas: Mustafa invented it. He probably wanted us to sound very exotic yet trustworthy.
Mustafa: It was guitarist Michael’s idea from my ex band, he created it at one  of his private parties. It was a name that sounded good and remaining us of some Italian style.
Krizo: It was Mustapha´s idea.

  6. What do you guys want your fans to know about you that they might not know already?
Tomas: Our video and music production had nearly zero budgets. We are greatly thankful to our friends who helped us in this way.
Mustafa: I want to say that the most important thing we want to keep in our band is friendship, love, understanding, and detachment. Also, everything is about communication, compromises, and understanding.
Krizo: I would like to tell them that we love them.

7. What are you thinking when you guys are on stage?
Tomas: What are the lyrics in the second verse? or can we really be louder than Metallica tonight?
Mustafa: I am proud, excited, and enjoying the show. I am also checking the people reactions to our music.
Krizo: When I am on stage, I am always excited because I love to know that the fans feel happy with our music.

8. What does your family think of your music?
Tomas: My mom prefers the mellow songs generally. Dad likes all of our songs, but always makes a funny expression on his face when he tries to recall what famous band in history that song reminded him of.
Mustafa: My family loves my music, but my biggest fans are my brother and girlfriend. I am so thankful for them because they help me progress my music.
Krizo: My family stays behind me.

9. What is your favorite food that you guys eat when you are on tour?
Tomas: Mainly pizza, burgers, nachos, pancakes, fish, risotto and pasta.
Mustafa: I am always trying to choose the healther items, but it is pretty hard because of the fast foods and Gas station diets I have been using lately.
Krizo: Rum (haha)

10. Which song is your favorite that you guys created together as a band?
Tomas: Mainly songs from our upcoming album. As from the previous one, it would be You´re My Mate and For Sure.
Mustafa: I think it is a new song called "Evermore" it will be on our new album.
Krizo: Vykam!!!
